South Carolina
South Carolina has a difficult and wide statute on criminal domestic violence. Simply put criminal domestic violence or CDV in South Carolina is defined as causing hurt making an attempt to trigger harm or threatening to lead to hurt to a household member.
There are serious penalties for those convicted of CDV. Getting arrested is not the same as becoming convicted. In order to be convicted of CDV you must both plead guilty no contest or be found guilty after a trial. As soon as somebody is convicted of CDV it will be up to a Court to figure out what penalties are imposed.
Everyone convicted of domestic violence will encounter a reduction of privileges relating to firearms. It will also produce a long lasting criminal document and issues in traveling internationally or immigrating to the United States.
For functions of the CDV sentencing law a prior conviction is one that occurred inside of the previous 10 years. Convictions from other states may possibly also count if their CDV law is considerably comparable to South Carolina’s.
